The contents of this guide are designed to assist users in creating multichannel output assignments from BFD3's mixer into Logic Pro's mixer.
This is an extremely valuable setup for those looking to expand their mixing capabilities by using native or third-party plugins housed within your favourite DAW!
- Create a new OR or open an existing Logic Pro Session
- Create a new 'Software Instrument Track'
- Load a Multi-Output instance of BFD3 as a plugin.
- In this example, we will demonstrate using the Multi-Output (8xStereo, 16xMono); the setup steps are identical between either.
- Advance Multi-out options are unavailable in stereo - If you have already loaded a kit in Stereo...
- Save your kit it as a preset
- Reload BFD as a Multi-Output instance
- Load your new preset
- Launch BFD3 & Load a Preset/Kit from the browser
- Ensure Kit' view is selected
- Click 'Faders' to display BFD3's mixer
Locate the output assignments for each channel
- Click the output assignment and select where you'd like the channel to go
- Note, the number of Mono/Stereo outputs will align with the outputs available in the plugin build you select - In this example, Multi-Outputs (8xStereo, 16xMono) are available.
- In this example, I want to create the following channels in Logic Pro - Users are welcome to route as they please, the steps below are basic guidelines:
- Kick
- Snare
- Tom 1 (High Tom)
- Tom 2 (Mid Tom)
- Tom 3 (Floor Tom)
- Percussion
- Hi-Hat
- Overheads (All Cymbals)
- AmbiMix
- Manually select each output channel and assign it to the following:
- Kick > Master
- Snare > Stereo 2
- Tom 1 (High Tom) > Stereo 3
- Tom 2 (Mid Tom) > Stereo 4
- Tom 3 (Floor Tom) > Stereo 5
- Percussion > Mono 1
- Hi-Hat > Stereo 6
- Overheads (All Cymbals) > Stereo 7
- AmbiMix (Room) > Stereo 8
- Navigate to Logic and load the channel mixer (shortcut = key 'X')
- Click the '+' icon beside BFD3 8 times if following the above example, OR until the '+' icon is greyed out to maximise the available aux channels.
- Name the tracks and pay attention to the inputs routed within BFD and how they appear in Logic's Mixer:
- That's it! Happy mixing with BFD3 in Logic Pro
