Welcome to this support article on troubleshooting content issues in BFD3, associated with the Core Library or Expansion content failing to load or appear as expected.
Note that the steps in this article relate to BFD 3.5, which is a free update for all existing BFD3 users.
If running the BFD 3.5 update, it's important to ensure the associated Core Library and any Expansion Packs also receive an update.
If you are yet to update your Core Library or Expansion content to align with the BFD3.5 update, please download the associated updates via the inMusic Software Center.
For installation guidance, please see the support articles linked below:
How to Solve Duplicated Presets, Kits, Drum Pieces, OR Yellow Triangles for Kit Pieces
If you find that either Presets, Kits, or Drum Pieces appear more than once, you can solve this problem by removing the content for BFD3 and re-adding it.
If Yellow Triangles appear against your kit, this is usually due to missing content or BFD3's inability to locate it.
To help you solve either issue... Please check the steps below:
How to Reset and Rescan Your Content in BFD3.5
- Ensure that all Core Library & Expansion content is held in one directory/location
- Merging your content location from earlier builds of BFD3 may result in problems and bizarre behaviour. Users are welcome to store earlier content in a separate location, but it is not recommended to consolidate content between historic builds of BFD3 prior to the 3.5 update.
- BFD3.5 content must be held in its own location. When adding your content, ensure this is the location specified, and not a location containing earlier content from BFD3.
- Launch BFD3
- Click the three lines on the top left of the window
- Hover your mouse cursor over 'Tools' and select 'Set up content locations...'
- Click the 'Content' tab
- Click 'REMOVE ALL'
- Accept prompt and click 'REMOVE ALL'
- Click 'ADD' and select the folder/directory for your Installed BFD3.5 content
- Your content will rescan - Note, that this can take up to 5 minutes depending on the number of expansions in your library
- Your products have been successfully added - Click 'DONE'
- Observe the products added - If anything is missing, check the folder specified.
- If you cannot locate the expansion in question, navigate to the inMusic Software center and redownload/install the content library. During the installation process, make sure you specify the target directory/folder. By default, all content is installed in your Documents, in a folder called 'BFD Drums'.
Advanced Step: Manually Restore Missing Kit Pieces from an Expansion
If you've installed an expansion but are still missing certain kit pieces (e.g., some kick or snare variants), it's possible that part of the content didn’t fully install. Follow the steps below to manually restore any missing files:
Download the expansion from the inMusic Software Center, but do not run the installer yet.
Locate the extracted download folder. Inside, find the Payload folder. It will look something like this:
C:\Users\USERNAME\Downloads\inMusic\Chocolate Audio - Contemporary Vintage...\Installer\Payload
Copy the Payload folder to a safe location such as your Desktop.
Now run the installer through the inMusic Software Center.
(Note: The Software Center deletes the original files after installation.)After the install finishes, copy the contents of the saved Payload folder into the corresponding install directory. For example:
C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\BFD Drums\Chocolate Audio - Contemporary Vintage\
If prompted, choose Replace the files in the destination.Launch BFD3.5 and verify the expansion loads completely with all kit pieces.
You can now safely delete the Payload folder from your desktop.
This method ensures all expansion files are present in the correct location.
