BFD Player | How to Load a Keymap

BFD Player is a free Drum Software Instrument, utilising some of the iconic drum sounds/samples from BFD3.  The Software Instrument allows drummers to access a fantastic drum library for their E-kit.

In this guide, we'll walk you through how to locate and load the available Keymaps in BFD Player, and what to do if you can't find your drum kit listed.

Guide to Loading Keymaps in BFD Player:

  1. Open the Keymap Menu:

    • In BFD Player, locate the down arrow button to the right of the “Preset” section at the top left.
  2. Access Keymap Options:

    • Click the arrow and go to Engine > Keymap.
  3. Select Your Keymap:

    • From the Keymap dropdown, choose from a wide selection of preset keymaps designed for popular drum controllers and software. Options include various Alesis kits, Roland models, Superior Drummer, General MIDI, and many more.
  4. Finalize Your Selection:

    • Once selected, the keymap will adjust BFD Player’s mapping to match your chosen setup, enabling accurate triggering for each drum sound.

Tip: For best results, match the keymap with your drum kit model to ensure seamless integration.

What if I can't find my kit available as a keymap?

Unfortunately, not all E-kits will have a keymap available within BFD Player. If you find yourself in this position, fear not, as most E-kits can adjust the mapping of the kit directly.

In this case, it will be best to refer to your E-Kits manual to confirm if MIDI Mapping is available and whether this can be adjusted.

If you have the option to remap your kit, it will be best to ensure BFD Player's keymap is set to BFD Player (this is selected by default) and use the Keymap guide found in our BFD Player Manual on Pages 19 - 20.

Once you map your kit to BFD Player's default MIDI Mapping, you'll be good to go!
