Frequently Asked Questions:

What is BFD Signature Snares Vol.1?

BFD Signature Snares Vol.1 is a download-only expansion pack for BFD3, BFD Eco and BFD2.

What do I need in order to use BFD Signature Snares Vol.1?

BFD Signature Snares Vol.1 requires a registered copy of BFD3, BFD Eco or BFD2 (versions 2.1 and later only) and a suitable system on which to run it.

Can I use this product with BFD 1.x?

No - this expansion can only be used with BFD3, BFD Eco or BFD2 (versions 2.1 or later only). BFD 2.1 is a free update to all registered BFD2 users.

Why does it have these requirements?

BFD3, BFD Eco and BFD2.1 (and later versions) are equipped to handle the data format and custom channel layout featured in this expansion; previous versions of BFD2 and BFD 1.x cannot.

What kind of limitations exist when using this product with BFD Eco?

When using this expansion in BFD Eco, limitations apply in terms of the audio channels and articulations that are available (this is one of BFD Eco's limitations, as opposed to the fully-featured BFD3 or BFD2).

BFD Eco is a streamlined instrument based on the BFD2 engine.

What is included?

Roy Haynes Signature Snare Drum (14" x 5.5") The sound of jazz great Roy Haynes is embodied in this hand-hammered copper shell snare. With a versatile, refined tone, the snare is recorded with sticks and brushes, as well as using mallets with the snare strainer off.
- Sticks (strainer on and off) - Brushes (strainer on and off) - Mallets (strainer off)

Bamboo Snare Drum (14" x 6.5") Paper-thin sheets of bamboo are used to create single plies, six of which are used to form perfectly round shells with Yamaha's original "Air-Seal System". The result is a remarkably beautiful shell that produces a warm tone full of low-end.
- Sticks (strainer on and off)

FHP (fiberglass) Snare Drum (14" x 6") A precursor to the FRP range, the FHP's fiberglass material permits the utilization of thinner 3mm shells, which deliver a fat, dynamic sound with excellent playing response. The FHP uses the same material used in making Yamaha marimbas, xylophones, and tympanis. - Sticks (strainer on and off) - Hot rods (strainer on and off)

Dave Weckl Signature Model (14" x 5") One of a series of Dave Weckl signature snares featuring a dual-strainer design, this steel-shell model possesses a unique sound and 'crack'. - Sticks (strainer on) - Brushes (strainer on)

Mike Bordin Signature Model (14" x 6.5") With a partially hand-hammered 2mm copper shell, this snare features a thick, dark tone. With the power to cut through loud mixes, the snare also exudes enough warmth and sensitivity for almost any musical application. - Sticks (strainer on)

Where were the snares recorded?

The snares in this collection were tracked at Omega Studios. The room is the same as that used for the BFD Jazz & Funk, BFD Percussion, BFD B.O.M.B expansion packs as well as the BFD JEX and previous Yamaha-based expansion kits (BFD Oak Custom and BFD Maple Custom Absolute).

The snares are perfect for mixing with other expansions in the BFD library as they sound great and have a versatile tone that sits well in any mix.

How big is the download?

BFD Signature Snares Vol.1 is available in separate downloads for BFD3/BFD2 and BFD Eco (purchasing gives you access to both sets of downloads):

  • BFD Eco: approx. 215MB
You should install this version if you intend to use BFD Signature Snares vol.1 in BFD Eco only. This version features all data pre-reduced for BFD Eco limitations (16-bit audio with a maximum of 24 velocity layers).
  • BFD3/BFD2: approx 2.6GB in 5 files
You should install this version if you intend to use BFD Signature Snares Vol.1 in BFD3/BFD2 and BFD Eco.

This expansion pack does not include any kits as the pack is a set of snare kit-pieces.

Is there a discount for owners of the previous Yamaha-based expansion kits?
